Collecting Avon Jewelry

David Hall McConnell formed the Avon Company as a Perfume Company in New York in 1885. He was a successful door-to-door salesman and direct marketing was the key to his success.  By 1920, sales had topped $1,000,000.  It wasn’t until 1928 that McConnell named the company Avon after William Shakespeare’s home “Stratford-upon-Avon, England. Not until 1965 did Avon’s jewelry line emerge and it began with a stylish locket called Solid Perfume Jewel Pin.
